5 Ways to Jumpstart your Fundraising

1. Work

The Lord created us for work. In the beginning God gave Adam work. Genesis 2:15 (NIV) says, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it”. We were designed to work. There is nothing the matter about making your own wages in order to pay for God’s calling. He can provide work for us in order to get to the places we need to go. Try offering to babysit for people, doing yard work, detailing peoples cars, selling art or jewelry, or maybe you can start to set a side some money from your current job position!

2. Fundraiser Night

Have fun with fundraising! It’s not always about a direct way; you can get creative and have a fun festive night! Have a movie night and invite all your friends and family. You can serve popcorn, drinks, and cookies and have a suggested donation amount of $5 per person! It can be a fun way to hangout with all the people you love in one place before you head off for your grand adventure!

3. One-On-One Conversation

I have found this “method” to be the most effective. A lot of people just want to be genuine and build a relationship with you. People want to know that they care to you and want to hear everything first hand. They may have questions about why you have decided missions or just really want to hear your heart behind stepping into YWAM. In Matthew 6:21 it says, “ For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. If these one on ones decide to financially support you, it is important to be intentional with them so that their heart can be of support too. You will need prayer and encouragement throughout the time of building your faith with God, so reach out to people and have a face to face conversation with them about what God is calling you into.

4. Garage Sale

Let’s be honest- We will always have things to get rid of and now is the perfect time to do a clean out! Garage sales can be lots of work, but they can also be really rewarding! See if any of your friends or family would donate things to the garage sale too, it could be an easy way to make some money on a weekend!

5. Explain Why

People want to hear your story. People want to know what God is doing in your life and where He is leading you. Let people know! Post a blog or a video about why you are doing a DTS or have a time to share to your community! People love to hear how God is working in people’s lives and it can be very encouraging for them. Explaining why can also give them a reason to donate. It’s hard to support something you don’t quite understand or don’t know about.
